A quick guide to the majestic creatures of the sea.
Whales migrate along predictable routes each year and certain regions of the world. In Mauritius, the deep ocean lies just minutes from the coast and hides unforgettable encounters with the whales. There are two types of whales which can be observed:
1. Humpack Whales
They are migratory whales and pass by Mauritius roughly between July and October. Their presence is tied to breeding. They come to warmer waters to mate, give birth and raise calves.
2. Sperm Whales
These are resident whales. They can be seen year-round in the waters off Mauritius
Spotting whales are not 100% guaranteed but with years of experience we can say that there is a high success rate to find them. Our experienced skippers know the local waters well and will do their utmost to locate the whales, all while keeping your safety at the top of their priority.
On spot, the boat maintains a safe distance from the whales( not less than 100 m) and from there you can observe these majestic creatures in their natural habitat.
It is prohibited to swim, dive or snorkel with whales in Mauritius.
