Dolphins are playful and intelligent creatures. Swimming with them in their natural habitat is a magical experience that connects you with marine life.  It is a unique experience which is unforgettable for families, friends and solo travelers alike- perfect for photos, bonding and creating lasting memories.

There are several species of dolphins around Mauritius. Here are some of the main ones:

1. Spinner Dolphin

  • Very common around Mauritius.
  • Colour: dark grey on top, lighter grey on the sides and white on their belly. ( There can be variation)
  • Known for acrobatic behaviour- they spin or twist when jumping.
  • They often group in large pods.

2. Bottlenose Dolphin

  • They are larger than spinners.
  • They are curious and very playful.  They are often seen swimming close to boats and are known for being gentle and intelligent.

Key Legal Rules for swimming with dolphins in Mauritius.

It’s illegal to feed dolphins.

Swimming with dolphins is allowed from 6 a,m to noon.

Boats should not approach dolphins closer than 50 metres.

Touching dolphins is strictly prohibited.

Swimmers should avoid making noise to attract dolphins.
